Do You Know the MoGlo Girls?

If the old-fashioned lime green painted chairs are out on the sidewalk
In front of Morning Glory Cafe on South San Francisco Street
We’ll know it’s open today and they’ll be blue corn tamales for lunch
We’ll get to see the goddesses Maria and her staff
The MoGlo girls will serve us with love today

Enter the curvy metal trimmed door
And walk the well-tread wooden floor
To the glass-fronted deli counter where
Displayed with style are large shallow black bowls
Its what’s inside that starts the juices flowing
Black bowls filled with curried pasta, artichoke and tofu rice, fresh spring greens,
And today a special treat
A sign reads Grandma Lydia’s Rice Pudding with coconut and vanilla
We say Bluecorn Tamale Plate please
And move along to the old white metal art deco stove
For chips and salsa

Feminine energy rules
Food is sacred here
And special words from Maria uplift the day
She carries a vessel of golden liquid
A slice of fresh orange floats with the ice
Have some Yerba Mate tea
It’s good for your metabolism
She dispenses food with consciousness

A Native American lady with long gray hair walks through the door
She is very small and wearing bright magenta clothing
Maria comes to greet Grandma Wolf and bends to hug her
Do you know Grandma Wolf
Hello
We’ve seen you around town
She sits down and is presented with Yerba Mate tea

Art is given space in this place of the heart
We walk around the small room looking at the objects on the walls
But kitchen aromas are getting to us and just in time to satiate
We’re served a plate of colors and textures to rival any art piece
We look before we taste
The blend of grains and smooth salmon colored sauce, shreds of creamy cheese, a slice of bright red tomato, a piece of avocado and a sprig of dark green cilantro
We sip Yerba Mate tea and smile
This is a place of the heart.

Thank you Maria
Thank you MoGlo girls
