people have laughed worked talked eaten read fought cried slept written worried celebrated and socialized for over 90 years
In this Place
there are books
the chairs accommodate one pregnant lady propped up with pillows
or two people sitting side by side
the cats recline in a patch of sunlight by day
or curled up on your lap by night
there is no television
there are souvenirs of places we love
one drawing by a family member and one by a friend
photographs that mean something to us
lamps and candles light the dark corners
there is a place to set down your drink and your book
plants like the light
In this Place
we practiced the steps for our wedding dance
before there was furniture
we nap on saturday afternoons
we find time to sit down together and talk
face to face
i write letters to friends who are too far away
we once stayed up till 2 am
playing dominoes and drinking champagne
sometimes we disagree
i dream
then plan for the future
visitors come
we remember the past
