Grand Falls
On a warm summer day, my roommate Alex and I escaped the hustle and bustle of summer school to Grand Falls. A natural born mountain goat, Alex hopped, skipped, jumped and climbed the dry falls. I chose a more reflective activity: photography. This pool of stagnant water on the shelf of the falls caught my attention: the round pockets; the swiss cheese appearance of the lock; the turquoise green water. My feet dangling over the edge, I peeled over and cautiously took this picture. As we combed the geology of the falls from several angles, Alex and 1 compared notes, discussed the formation of the falls, ate a delicious picnic lunch at the viewpoint, and made porta-potty jokes.
What made this a place of my heart was that after living with Alex for a year, this was the first time we had gone out and done something recreational together. We both knew the summer’s end was fast approaching, and with Alex getting married soon and my new job in Phoenix our trip to Grand Falls was a time to relax, explore, have fun, and make memories so that later we could say, “Hey remember that nip to Grand Falls....”
